“The debate is over. The science is clear. Secondhand smoke is not a mere annoyance, but a serious health hazard.”

Why Proposition 1 is Bad for Baytown
Prop. 1 ignores the scientific evidence that secondhand smoke is dangerous to our health. Prop. 1 ignores the fact that “designated smoking sections” do not adequately protect customers and employees from exposure to secondhand smoke.
Why do we have to vote again? Last November, Baytown voters approved a comprehensive smoke-free ordinance with 57% of the vote. Now, just five months later, opponents who were unhappy with the will of the voters have placed Proposition 1 on the ballot (see ballot) in an attempt to reverse course and take Baytown backward to the days when the health of customers and employees was not taken into consideration. In the time since Baytown went smoke-free, several other Texas cities have also become smoke-free. Why would Baytown want to take a huge step backward when other cities across Texas are moving forward to protect the health of their citizens? Baytown's smoke-free ordinance is working. Let's oppose the effort to overturn it. Keep Baytown Smoke-Free -- Vote AGAINST Proposition 1.
